Before I arrived at Dr. Liao's Eastern Healing
Center, I suspected I suffered from ADD that
resulted in my physical ailments or vice versa. The constant thoughts that
flow through my mind became a great liability. I would have trouble
maintaining focus in class, home work, daily tasks, and social interactions or
specifically new social interactions. Aside from the lack of concentration,
the physical ailments such as pain in the thoracic spine (T5), sternum and
collar bone (the infamous "T"), shoulder joints, and neck via
scalene muscle, became a distraction due to the numbness in parts of the body
and the trapped nerves in result of the pain. The overall weakness made me
feel tired and distracted. This affected my decision-making abilities and
problem solving process tremendously. It also took a toll on my self-esteem,
because of the lack of mental and physical performance generated a negative
image in my mind of self worth.
Dr. Liao's prescribed an intense one month double treatment, a combination
of qigong therapy, acupuncture,
and acupressure, improved my physical condition and a bit of my learning
disability. The first step was to take a reading test Dr. Liao conducted to
measure the level of concentration and comprehension, and information
attainment. I was to read a simple one page article from a random magazine
with no time limit. The first test results were poor. I had enough trouble
concentrating not to skip lines let alone remembering what I have read and the
biggest factor was I had no interest at all even if I really willed myself to
do the task.
The first visit was a tremendous success and the difference on how I felt
before and after the first visit was by a large margin. The Qigong therapy
when performed loosened the tension in the body especially the head. There was
always a relaxing and peaceful feeling within minutes after when the therapy
starts. The Qi usually starts in the frontal lobe of the brain and travels to
the cerebrum then to the cerebellum and finally spreads throughout the body
through what seems like a channel or pathway on the spine. The movement of the
Qi is like waves of energy that passes through in a circular motion with set
revolutions. The Qi also has a sensation of cold and warm depending on the
area of the body. The importance of the temperature of Qi is significant,
because it feels that the Qi can break up the pain or weakness in the body.
This is the very action that creates the sense of relaxation and the feeling
of increased circulation in the areas of pain which is a positive result.
Usually after each appointment the pain somewhat dissipates and the mind then
becomes clear and relaxed. After about two months time with Dr. Liao, the
physical ailments have been reduced to a point where I almost forgot I had
them before. The ADD is still a major issue, but in
class concentration has improved slightly. My reading ability improved to a
level where I can attain on average 50% of what I have read compared to the
30% from before. Unlike the manic and aimless reading behavior I had before,
the mind felt like it can control the eye and memory functions of the brain
with better with fluency and consistency.
However with these improvements there has been some regression in the
process. To be clear the regression is not a result from the treatments and
most likely due to my lifestyle habits and thoughts or moods. I still have
useless thoughts that pop up in my mind that distract me a lot and the moments
where my consciousness drifts off somewhere and I unknowingly am in a daydream
state for sometime. I believe these conditions have not improved significantly
because lifestyle habits such as sleeping late, internet suffering, and
videogames and thoughts such as self doubt, constant thinking of past, and
other hinder any chance of improvement for these distractions take a lot of
energy to perform.
