Healing of Fibromyalgia

Multiple Severe Painful Spots

What is Fibromyalgia (FM)?

Fibromyalgia is a common non-fatal condition that causes pain and fatigue in muscles, ligaments and tendons. Fibromyalgia affects 8 to 10 million Americans. About 80% of suffers are women. Fibromyalgia tends to appear following chronic illness, major surgery or an injury that is slow to resolve. Currently, fibromyalgia cannot be diagnosed by laboratory tests. However, upon physical examination, the fibromyalgia patient will be sensitive to pressure at many tender points on their body. Some families may have a predispostion to developing fibromyalgia.

Criteria

û      Widespread pain in all four quadrants of their body for a minimum of three months

û      At least 11 of the 18 specified tender points (as red dots on “The Three Graces” figure)

Symptoms

û      Fullness of lower abdomen

û      Multiple tender points

û      Extreme morning stiffness

û      Anxiety and moodiness

û      Shortness of breath

û      Fatigue

û      Irritable bladder

û      Night-time pain

û      Increased thirst

û      Headaches

û      Irritable bowel

û      Insomnia

Causes of Fibromyalgia in Chinese Medicine

The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown according to today’s medical research. From the view of Chinese medicine, though, all fibromyalgia patients have water retention (fullness of lower abdomen, etc.) deep in the body. This water retention slows down the blood flow, which is called water stagnation. The patient’s tongue frequently is either oversized or curved on both edges. The chronic water stagnation will lead to heat in the body, which is manifested as increased thirst. The shortness of breath is a sign of low kidney energy. Because the pathologic energy runs very deep in the patient’s body, it is very possible to pass it down to the next generation.

Prevention – Living a Better Life Style

As prevention is the best medicine, patients can prevent or lessen the symptoms of fibromyalgia by:

²     Practicing relaxed exercises like Tai Chi

²     Going to bed at a reasonable time – by 10:00 pm

²     Avoiding foods, cold in nature

²     Avoiding deep fried, grilled or spicy foods

²     Avoiding stressful activities

²     Avoiding pregnancy before fibromyalgia is healed

Healing – Renewing Patient’s Life

Patients will experience distinct comfort during each healing session and enjoy some of the benefits below:

ü     Overall deep relaxation

ü     More energetic

ü    Calmness, happiness

ü    Less stressful

ü     Feeling of lightness

ü     Easier breathing

ü    Sharper brain power

ü    Better temper

ü     Less muscular pain

ü     Decreased thirst

ü    Better concentration

ü    Less urination

Our fibromyalgia healing consists of a multi-step process. The fibromyalgia healing process consists of 5 sessions. For a complete healing, it may take 2 or more healing processes, depending on the stage of the fibromyalgia.

A Case among Many Successful Stories

Ms. F. was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in Feb. 2001. She came to Eastern Healing Center on Sep. 18, 2002. She also complained about heavy arms, water retention at lower abdomen, increased thirst, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, headaches, frequent urination, depression, and a faulty memory. Upon examination, her tongue appeared cracked and red and both feet were very yellow.

During the first healing session, she felt that energy (qi) was sent to her Dan-Tian strongly. Then she felt that her arms were lighter than before and more energetic for a few days. After one healing process, she felt very energized without fatigue and her arms hadn’t been numb for 2 weeks. Overall pain was reduced by half. Her frequency of urination was reduced to 6 per day, 3 times fewer than before. Sensation of fullness was reduced by 50%. The yellow color of her feet was gone completely. Most importantly, her sense of well-being was restored. She had more energy for daily physical therapy exercises, and to accomplish every day tasks.

Ms. F. is continuing her healing processes after her first healing process at Eastern Healing Center.
